Blinded By The Blues band set to play Festival main stage from 3 p.m. til closing

Blinded By The Blues will close the Festival, playing on the Festival main stage from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Festival grounds officially close at 5 p.m.

According to GigMasters:

Blinded By The Blues is playing high performance West Coast and Chicago blues with touches of rockabilly and Texas Shuffle. The group’s distinctive sound is influenced by many styles of music which has merged to form a unique sound. We are a straight-ahead blues band. It is our focus and passion. We’je incorporated a mixture of different blues styles into our repertoire.

The band features, and is anchored by the harp stylings of “Blind Bulldog” Ronnie Johnson. Ronnie, sight-impaired from childhood, was raised to be a musician by his stepdad, the great New Orleans piano player Ronnie Barron. He experienced this musical style at a very early age, and it is now part of his soul. He brings that same experience to the band and keeps us firmly grounded in the blues sounds of the 50’s and 60’s.

Cypress Kiwanis flip for the Cypress Community Festival

Cypress Kiwanis, a full partner in producing the annual Cypress Community Festival, will return to the 2018 Festival to flip pancakes — hundreds of pancakes!

From 7 a.m. — even before the Festival Grounds officially open — through 11 a.m. — when most Festival attendees are thinking about lunch — the place for flapjacks and sausage is the east end of the Cypress Community Center at Oak Knoll Park, 5700 Orange Ave. in Cypress.

Tickets for the Pancake Breakfast may be purchased ahead of time at Bowman Real Estate, 9922 Walker St., suite A, in Cypress. (That’s just north of Ball Rd. on the east side of Walker St.)

After the opening ceremony at 9 a.m., many exiting activities will tempt to Festival-goers all ages. The Challenger baseball game — softball vs. baseball — a Cypress K-9 demonstration — arts and crafts vendors and Business Expo exhibitors! Live entertainment on multiple stages! The Kid’s Fun Zone, Chili and Salsa Contest, and Classic Car Show are favorite attractions in addition to the Cypress 5K and 10K Run/Walk that leads right in to the Festival.

About the Cypress Kiwanis

The Cypress Kiwanis club was chartered in December, 1950 and was a sponsoring member in the formation of the Cypress Community Festival in 1981. As has been true since the club’s formation, proceeds from the Festival breakfast, and all Kiwanis events, go toward funding scholarships for Cypress youth. The motto of Kiwanis International is: “Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.”

If you are interested in being a part of the Kiwanis team, the club meets on the first and third Tuesday evenings of each month at 7 p.m. at the Cypress Boys & Girls Club, 10161 Moody St. in Cypress. Email Jay Sondhi for more information at:
